How has your company changed over the years?
Over the course of the last 100 years and as part of the Farm Credit System, Farm Credit Mid-America has continued to evolve to meet the changing needs of our customers, but our commitment to our purpose to secure the future of rural communities and agriculture has remained steadfast.
How do you see your company growing in the future?
Farm Credit Mid-America is focused on sustainable growth that allows us to continue to meet our customers’ needs. We achieve this by keeping a clear focus on what we can control and taking advantage of opportunities when they arise. We recognize the challenges and uncertainty in the ag industry and have taken steps to strengthen our cooperative by managing expenses, streamlining processes and aligning products and resources.
Interesting tidbits about your business:
- We are a cooperative owned by our customers. This structure sets us apart from other lenders. We adhere to seven basic principles followed by cooperatives around the world, which include:
- Democratic Member Control: We are a democratic organization controlled by eligible customers who have loans with our cooperative. These customer-owners participate in electing our Board of Directors, who set policies and make decisions about our business.
- Members’ Economic Participation: Our customer-owners contribute equally to, and democratically control, the capital of Farm Credit Mid-America. Our customer-owners benefit through our Patronage program, which has returned more than $1.5 billion back in our customers’ wallets over the past 9 years.
- Education, Training & Information: We provide education and training for our customer-owners, Board of Directors and team members so that all can contribute effectively to the cooperative.
- Concern For the Community: While we focus on our customer-owners’ needs, we know that they can’t do it without their communities. In 2025, we have committed to invest $5 million in programs across our six-state territory that align with our mission to secure the future of rural communities and agriculture.
