Sustaining Sponsor Spotlight: Ohio Corn Marketing Program
The Ohio AgriBusiness Association is pleased to feature our Sustaining Sponsors in the 2024 Spotlight Series. This week, the focus is on Platinum Sponsor: Ohio Corn Marketing Program.
Location (Main Headquarters): Delaware, Ohio
Year started: 1977
Number of employees: 7
Number of facilities: 1
Type of services offered: The Ohio Corn Marketing Program, commonly known as the Corn Checkoff, is a farmer-lead organization that represents the interests of over 26,000 farmers in the state of Ohio. The organization’s entire mission is to increase demand for Ohio’s corn crop by promoting market opportunities, funding research that moves corn development forward, and sharing information about corn with key stakeholders. We exist to promote and grow Ohio’s corn industry.
Company history: The Ohio Corn Checkoff was started by a small group of farmers in 1977 when it was clear that the industry needed investment. Since then, we have been working for farmers to increase yields, fund new technologies, and promote new markets. The presence of ethanol plants in Ohio can be directly connected to promotion and education done by the Ohio Corn Checkoff.
How has your company changed over the years? Over the years the Corn Checkoff has consistently evolved with the needs of the industry and continues to be a leader on a national scale.
How do you see your company growing in the future? We will continue to invest in cutting-edge research, youth development, and rising market opportunities — anything that helps Ohio farmers sell more corn and be more effective.
How has OABA helped your business or the agribusiness industry? We are thankful for our industry friends and partners. The OABA allows us another avenue to us to connect with the organizations that share our interests and help agriculture thrive.
Anything else you would like to share: If you are a farmer in Ohio that grows corn, the Ohio Corn Checkoff is working for you. Your checkoff investments have caused massive market opportunities over the years and continue to help your business. By supporting the Corn Checkoff, you are supporting the future of Ohio’s agricultural industry; both for your business and for future generations.
The Ohio Corn Checkoff is run by a Board of Directors comprised of farmers, for farmers. Farmers make the decisions and set the direction on where and how to invest in projects because we believe that farmers know their operations better than anyone. Our board members go around the world to speak with international grain buyers and make business connections on your behalf. The work we are doing benefits every farmer in the state of Ohio, whether they know it or not.
The Corn Checkoff supports research on Vomitoxin and water quality; investment in youth development through scholarships and internships; market development in the U.S. Grains Council and National Corn growers Association; consumer education through Unleaded 88 gasoline promotion; and much more.
