OABA Facility Management Training Course Recap

Course Focused on Safety, OSHA Inspections and Effective Employee Management

The Ohio AgriBusiness Association (OABA) Facility Management Training Course wrapped up this week with the second day of training in Horatio. The two-day training course began on February 8 in Crestline with the focus on behavioral-based safety and preparing for an Ohio Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) inspection. On Thursday, the second part of the training covered effective employee management, organizational management skills, internal communications and human resources management.

“The Ohio AgriBusiness Association believes it is important to host the Facility Management Training Course to provide a valuable professional development opportunity for our members who have a direct or indirect role in managing employees,” said Chris Henney, OABA President and CEO. “This training provided a great overview for how to effectively manage employees across different, and sometimes challenging, situations.”

The first part of the training was held at Sunrise Cooperative’s Crestline facility and was facilitated by two presenters. Brett Gillian with the Ohio Bureau Workers’ Compensation shared information about the importance of behavior-based safety (BBS) and how to incorporate it into a particular business’ culture. Kip Reiher, a former OSHA Inspector, provided information about OSHA inspections, including the types of inspections, citations, penalties, inspection processes, and tips for protecting a business from citations and penalties.

Martin Hall with Land O’Lakes, Inc. kicked off the second day of training with organizational management skills and discussed effective management skills and techniques, internal communications, performance management, employee engagement and hiring for retention. Effective planning and delegation was covered by Mark Roeth with Land O’Lakes, Inc., and Karen Alsop with Town and Country Co-op provided important information about standard operating procedures, necessary documentation and personnel files.
