ODA's "Got Your Back" and OSU's "#LeanOnYourLandGrant in a Crisis" Campaigns

Ohio's Got Your Back
Ohio Department of Agriculture

Agriculture is the number one industry in Ohio. ODA knows farmers give so much of themselves to keep the industry strong. So many factors in farming are out of a farmer’s control, and that can be stressful. Wondering if the weather will cooperate, long hours working alone – it can all affect the well-being of the farm family. ODA wants you to know, you’re not alone. ODA wants you to know, there is help available. ODA wants you to know, they’ve got your back.

Everyone experiences stress. Stress comes in many forms – challenges on the farm, chronic disease, or an argument with a loved one. But all types of stressors result in the same physical and emotional burden on health.

Symptoms of stress can also take many forms. Stress may cause physical complaints, such as tension headaches, back pain, indigestion, or heart palpitations. It may appear as poor concentration and difficulty making decisions. Emotional symptoms of stress include crying, irritability, and edginess. And stress can also show up as negative behaviors. Driving a car too fast, overeating, or smoking can all be behavioral symptoms of stress.

A variety of resources are available on the Ohio's Got Your Back webpage, including online courses, helplines and more.

Supporting partners include: RecoveryOhio, The Ohio State University College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Ohio Suicide Prevention Foundation, Farm Credit Mid-America, Ohio Corn and Wheat Growers Association, Ohio Cattlemen's Association, Ohio AgriBusiness Association, Ohio Poultry Association, Ohio Pork Council, Ohio Dairy Producers Association, Ohio Soybean Association and Ohio Sheep Improvement Association.

The historic rainfall during this growing season has challenged Ohio growers and producers. Find science-based solutions to the issues from the CFAES community of experts.

The College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences is concerned with the severe impact that the extreme weather, coupled with recent public policy issues, is having on growers and producers.

In response, CFAES has assembled resources and information that can assist from a broad perspective on the issues facing those in farming and related industries as well as the rural community overall.
