OABA Sustaining Sponsor Spotlight: Ohio Farm Bureau Federation

Spotlight Header Bronze

Ohio Farm Bureau Federation was formed in 1919 as a membership organization of farmers and rural residents dedicated to improving their communities and strengthening their chosen farming vocation. Farm Bureau offers a variety of services including advocacy work at the local, state and national levels, member benefits, including the Ohio Farm Bureau Health Benefits Plan and Workers’ Compensation Group Rating Program, lobbying and legal services, educational programming and community development efforts.

Ohio Farm Bureau is a federation of 86 county Farm Bureaus. Each county has its own board of trustees and volunteers who lead local initiatives. Today Ohio Farm Bureau has more than 160,000 members, 23 county offices and a state office in downtown Columbus.

Ohio Farm Bureau’s mission is “Working together for Ohio farmers to advance agriculture and strengthen our communities.” Through the years, Farm Bureau has adapted to the changing needs of their members while remaining true to their mission. This includes moving away from primarily daytime meetings and training sessions to almost exclusively evening meetings and expanding the definition of active member to include agriculture professionals whose livelihoods are impacted by the health of Ohio agriculture.

Farm Bureau welcomes those who are farmers or who’s job is directly impacted by the health of Ohio agriculture to be an active member of the organization. Benefits include having a voice in Farm Bureau’s advocacy efforts, voting on policy positions, member savings and discounts and services essential to the farm and food community.

From Ohio Farm Bureau: “As we work to lower business taxes or reduce the regulatory burden on our industry, Farm Bureau can always rely on OABA as a strong partner. Supporting agriculture’s effort to improve water quality through the 4R Nutrient Stewardship program is another example of how our strong partnership can help produce problem-solving solutions to move our industry forward. Farm Bureau looks forward to the numerous ways we can work with agribusiness leaders to promote the shared interests of our sectors in the future.”
