OABA Sustaining Sponsor Spotlight: Bunge

Spotlight Header Ptbunge

What started as a grain trading company in Amsterdam in 1818 has grown into a global company with hundreds of locations throughout the world. Bunge is a leading agribusiness and food company, with operations in sugar and bioenergy, food and ingredients, oilseed processing and refining, and fertilizer. With its 35,000 employees globally, Bunge is working to solve one of the world’s biggest challenges – how to ensure food security for a growing population in a sustainable way.

The Bellevue, Ohio location joined Bunge in 1961, when Central Soya (later Bunge) purchased the plant built by Spencer Kellogg. Operations originally consisted of soybean processing and industrial oil refining, but have expanded to include edible oil refining, lecithin refining and edible protein products.

On a local scale, Bunge provides a highly competitive market to Ohio soybean producers, which are then processed into soybean meal and crude soybean oil. The meal is used as a protein supplement for animal feeds, while the oil is further refined into salad oils and lecithin products.

The Ohio AgriBusiness Association has helped Bunge to grow through the many educational and training programs offered. Working with OABA, Bunge is able to share innovative ideas in the industry and help promote agriculture in Ohio.
