Mid-Wood, Inc. in North Baltimore, Ohio is seeking to hire a Grain Division Branch Manager

Position Objective: To effectively manage the facility’s assets in a safe, efficient and profitable manner. To staff the facility according to its needs and safely manage employees day to day routines. To do these duties in a manner that will improve Mid-Wood’s efficiency, help achieve the cooperative’s mission and goals to provide outstanding customer service, and provide leadership to all employees working in Feed and Grain operations at the assigned location.

Purpose and Summary Statement: The Grain Branch Manager will work directly with customers daily assisting them with their needs, and refer customers to the proper division or employee outside of their branch, if necessary. The Grain Branch Manager will communicate regularly with the Administrative office making sure that correct and timely information is being gathered regarding grain purchases, grain shipments, inventory totals, hours of operation, payroll, deposits, check request, etc.

The Grain Branch Manager will be responsible for grain handling, grain condition/conditioning, feed/mixing/grinding, general store oversight, and all activities associated with the grain elevator, feed mill, and general store. The Grain Branch Manager will make sure that employees are working in a safe manner and in a safe work environment, and will be responsible for making sure the branch is in compliance with all OSHA/FSMA/EPA/ODA/FDA regulations. The Grain Branch manager will facilitate monthly safety meetings with topics that are pertinent to their facility’s operations. The content of these meetings, as well as, an attendance log will be filed for each month’s meetings.

The Grain Branch Manager will also implement/enforce and record/file records of housekeeping, maintenance and repair programs.

The Grain Branch Manager will keep the facility open during weekends and extended daily hours to facilitate customers’ needs during harvest periods. The Grain Branch Manager will also monitor employees’ hours during harvest seasons and spread the work load among the employees as much as possible to keep a safe work environment for both the employees and customers.

The Grain Branch Manager will work with Mid-Wood’s Grain Market Specialists on a regular basis to ensure that Mid-Wood, Inc. is servicing current customers and that perspective customers are contacted.

The Grain Branch Manager will communicate regularly with the Vice President of the Grain Division regarding grain quality, space needs, operational and customer issues.

Essential Job Functions & Requirements:

Establish and Achieve Goals:

  • Work with V.P. Grain Division to establish yearly goals
  • Make contact with current and potential customers
  • Establish a “Top Ten” customer and “Top Ten” prospect list
  • Increase bushel/feed volume through effective, consistent, customer service and communication.

Service:

  • Provide friendly and efficient service
  • Greet all customers enthusiastically and promptly
  • Keep up to date feed files and grain contracts, target orders, and points of interest with each customer
  • Provide a clean, safe, and organized facility
  • Provide each customer/prospect with up to date market information
  • Handle all customer complaints promptly and follow through until a solution is achieved. Anytime a complaint is given, complete a complaint report and document the original complaint and steps taken to rectify the problem. Send a copy of the report to the V.P. Grain Division immediately.
  • Lose no customer due to service provided

Make Proper Recommendations for All Products Sold:

  • Identify resources for assistance and keep manuals accessible and current
  • Make no recommendations unless you understand the risk involved and feel comfortable with them. At no time make any recommendation that would place the customer in a speculative position.
  • Maintain an excellent working knowledge of marketing tools/alternatives and feed recommendations and requirements
  • Maintenance:
  • Maintenance involves maintaining equipment and facilities(s). It also includes maintaining the display area and pricing merchandise properly
  • Keep office, sales area, customer waiting area clean and presentable at all times
  • Arrange seasonal displays
  • Contract Accuracy:
  • Ensure that all contracts are properly priced, reported and entered into the AS400 system
  • Know your customer! Do not allow your customer to over contract putting him/her and Mid-Wood, Inc. at additional market risk

Other Duties:

  • Work with other Mid-Wood Grain Origination/Marketing Specialist to organize and facilitate at least two grain marketing/informational meetings per year
  • Keep all personal/personnel accounts current
  • The Grain Branch Manager will perform other duties as assigned by the V.P. of the Grain Division or CEO and will enforce and uphold Mid-Wood, Inc. policies and standards

Essential Physical Requirements:

  • Prolong periods of standing/sitting
  • Capable of bending, kneeling, climbing stairs/ladders to various heights
  • Working with/around grain and grain dust
  • Extreme weather conditions (hot, cold, wet, snow, ice, etc. )
  • Noisy conditions
  • Working at various heights
  • Lift 51-70 lbs.
  • Self-Starter
  • Strong math and people skills
  • Must be honest and reliable
  • Pay attention to detail

Ability and willingness to participate in required training that may include education on Mid-Wood, Inc.’s policies procedures and additional training as it relates to the requirements of the position.
